In addition to our original link to the patch at Mindless Games and Entertainment, its now available in the files section of RuneNews.com.

Hey Mikey, They Liked It!   by Phoebus [10:32 am ET - May 5, 2001]
Game Revolution gave Rune: HoV a B+ rating. Here's a blurb:
To the delight of veterans and newbies alike, Halls of Valhalla is both an expansion to the original and a stand-alone online multiplayer game. It features new skins, new maps, new modes and a new bug fixing patch for owners of the original Rune. And at under 20 dollars it is easily one of this year's best bets for action gamers.
Although they didn't like the new female skins, we won't hold that against them....

Tim Talking Euro Trash!   by Phoebus [7:05 pm ET - May 4, 2001]
EuroGamer has conducted an excellent and quite thorough interview with Tim Gerritsen of Human Head, covering their Blair Witch game, Rune and the HoV "expansion pack", Atlas' Rune pen-and-paper RPG, and the news that Human Head is now working on an unannounced PlayStation 2 title. Here's a little teaser, talking about the new Headball mode in Halls of Valhalla:
Back when Rune was finishing up, we had talked about other modes we wanted to do. We talked about the old Aztec game of Jai Alai where you threw a ball through a hoop (a bit like basketball). In the Aztec society, the team that lost got their heads cut off. We thought, let's cut out the middle man and make a game that allowed you to use limbs and heads
as the method of scoring.
There's lots more where that came from, so be sure to check out the rest!

The Bloodletting Continues!   by Phoebus [10:58 am ET - May 4, 2001]
GameSpot gives the not-for-free Halls of Valhalla expansion pack the ol' bend-over-insertion that's unfortunately become routine with this title:
If you're already familiar with last year's Viking action game, Rune, and weren't impressed with its multiplayer experience to begin with, then you might as well skip the rest of this review. Halls of Valhalla isn't going to change your mind. If for some reason you did enjoy Rune's lackluster deathmatch mode, you still might want to hold off on Halls of Valhalla. It simply takes the weakest part of the original game and repackages it with a few ultimately inconsequential bonuses--and then it ends up being even less impressive than that description.
Agree? Disagree? Head to our forums and be heard!

 Oh, That's Harsh!   by Phoebus [12:51 am ET - May 3, 2001]
Geez, I'm tending to like the game a lot more than the reviews, but maybe that's just me. Anywho, GamesDomain reviewed the not-for-free Rune expansion pack, Halls of Valhalla, and pretty much said what everyone else who's reviewed it has been saying, more or less:
Considering that the game ships with a level editor and so many maps, there's a fair amount of replay value. Unfortunately, the core of the game, melee combat, isn't very satisfying. Expect fleeting fun from Rune: Halls of Valhalla, but little long-lasting entertainment.
These kinds of reviews are always fun to read, but the true test, as they say (and you know who THEY are) is in the arena. Also, as you'll recall, we treated the title a whole lot better than these guys did, because we actually liked the game before we played the add-on. Snarf.
