Odin's Breath Needs You!   by pj [11:33 am PT - Jun. 27, 2000]
Odin's Breath has two "founding member" positions open!

Modeling Jarl: No, this doesn't mean you get to hang out with supermodels and hold their heads while they purge their lunches. It does mean that you get to review player models and skins, and have your models and/or skins featured prominently on the Odin's Breath web site.

Mutatator Jarl: Lycanthropes need not apply! This position will be filled by someone with a passion for pushing the edge of the gaming experience envelope. You need not have written Unreal mutators or mods to fill this position, but you will need to have created at least one mod that we can review. You will also get to review the mods and mutators released for Rune, and have your projects featured prominently on the Odin's Breath web site.

Odin's Breath will be a collaborative community of talented individuals who provide the community with reviews, tutorials, and advice on the editing arts. We have a public forum for public feedback, as well as a private forum where we can feel free to discuss our most secret of projects with other Horde members.

To apply for either position, please send an email to PraetorJudis at pj@runenews.com. Be sure to include samples of your work (or links to samples of your work), as well as a brief statement explaining why you want to be a part of our team!

After we have these position filled and the game gets closer to release, we will begin to actively recruit more talented member of what is sure to be an excellent community!

Calling All Cars! Calling All Cars!   by pj [11:15 am PT - Jun. 26, 2000]
Sightings of a new article on Rune have been reported at PC Games Central. Article has been reported as saying:
There are axes in the game that would make a lumberjack look like any self respecting lumberjack should look like, but there are axes in the game that would make it look like a Loony Tune character. Weird thing is, they make Ragnar look extremely good and dangerous. Can you imagine wielding an axe with a blade that is about as high as yourself? Ragnar does it with lethal skill.
All units, please respond! Report immediately to the article!!

Newest Rune Developer's Diary   by Phoebus [7:47 am PT - Jun. 26, 2000]
The newest edition of the Rune Developer's Diary is up at VoodooExtreme, in which Human Head Programmer Chris Rhinehart talks about Ragnar and how the character has evolved during the making of the game.

Scaricalo Ora!   by pj [12:35 pm PT - Jun. 25, 2000]
Multiplayer IT (a fine Italian site) has served up a three course meal of Rune movies for your viewing pleasure. So pour yourself a nice glass of red wine, and head on over to the Download Page. You can't have three concurrent connections on this site, so don't bother grabbing the third until the first one is on your plate, and remember that the salad fork is small one furthest from the plate...

Daily Radar Mentions Rune   by Phoebus [11:56 pm PT - Jun. 23, 2000]
Daily Radar had a few choice bits to say about Rune:
Human Head's Viking slasher Rune was next on the cards, and Business Director Tim Gerritsen walked us through a 75% complete version. The game runs off the Unreal engine, which has allowed the developer to create incredible skeletal models. Each level throughout the game will focus on a different style of gameplay, and these will most likely be split between action, adventure and puzzles.
They've also got several screenshots of Ragnar slinging various things at various people and/or creatures jumping about here.

New Rune Interview   by Phoebus [2:05 pm PT - Jun. 23, 2000]
GameSpot UK has posted an interview with Tim Gerritsen, talking about Viking mythology, gameplay, AI, and other issues involved in the making of Rune. Check it out!

How About A Little Culture?   by pj [4:02 pm PT - Jun. 21, 2000]
Grab yourself a Stout, put on a tweed sweater and head over to Eurogamer's Rune Article. Don't think it'll worth the milage on your virtual MG? Here's a few blocks of the article to wet yer whistle (how's that for a mixed metaphor?):
Rune's levels are designed to be destroyed, and you can often smash your way through doors and cause all kinds of mayhem as you fight your way through a location. For example, in one level you can chop down a support that causes part of the ceiling of the building you are in to collapse.
Head to Eurogamer for the rest of the preview!

You Too Can Be Extreme!   by pj [5:11 am PT - Jun. 20, 2000]
...Voodoo Extreme that is. It would seem that Billy "Wicked" Wilson's well has run a bit dry and he's asking for our input on questions to ask Human Head's Chris Rhinehart. You can find the Voodoo Extreme article right over here.

Make sure you check out Voodoo Extreme's previous Rune Developer's Diary entries right over here so you don't duplicate any questions Chris Rhinehart's been gentlemanly enough to answer already!

Mac Port of Rune Imminent   by twisted [10:18 am PT - Jun. 16, 2000]
Human Head Studios announced today that the company, Gathering of Developers, will publish Rune for a Macintosh version. The Mac port will also be co-developed with Mac specialists at Westlake Interactive and distributed by Take Two Interactive's Jack of All Games. Expect the game to be appearing on store shelves in the fall of 2000. Here's a clip from the announcement:

 Voodoo 5 5500 or GeForce 2 GTS?   by Hunter [12:30 pm PT - Jun. 15, 2000]
Not directly related to this website, but can impact your gaming, is your video card. Two new boards which are coming out soon are the Voodoo 5 5500 and GeForce 2 GTS. There's some debate going on about which one will be the better board to get.

I bought the July issue of PC Gamer and they have done some tests on both boards. The numbers seem to indicate that the GeForce 2 GTS is superior in speed, although, the GeForce they were using was only a reference board. For the exact numbers you'll have to buy the July issue. I don't think I have permission to post them.

Despite the low score on the Voodoo, the Voodoo does have some impressive looking features such as anti-aliasing; T-buffer: motion blur, depth of field, soft shadows/reflections; and more! So, don't count out this board yet. The Voodoo5 6000 AGP is coming soon anyway. It might be able to offer a little more competition. For more info on the Voodoo5 5500 click here. For the GeForce 2 GTS, click here.

(By the way, if you like any of these classic games: Terminal Velocity, Descent, King's Quest, Wing Commander, Ultima, Monkey Island, X-COM, Alone in the dark, Links, Duke Nukem 2, Ultima Underworld, and The Need for Speed; then I recommend buying the July issue of PC Gamer. All these incredible classics are included in the CD-ROM.)

Double the Blair Witch Bang for Your Buck!   by pj [12:30 pm PT - Jun. 14, 2000]
The MotherShip (Hi, mom!) informs me that Human Head is all the rage these days! There are two new previews of the Blair Witch Game Trilogy today, one at EuroGamer and one at 3D Action Planet.

Here's a snip from the EuroGamer festival of freaky fun:
The result is a game that is more based around action interspersed with cinematics to push the story forwards, and judging from the little we have seen so far it should be a suitably scary experience.
...and one from 3D Action Planet's lovely linguistic largesse:
During the search, you encounter various obstacles which Human Head Studios (the developer of this episode) claims will scare the heck out of you--as well as try to find out much more details about yourself and the mysterious happenings that are taking place.
*whistle*

What? Done already? Well what are you waiting for? Go read the full articles now!

According to Fastest Game News Online, Human Head Studios plans to give full support to Rune's online community. Here's a clip:
Once the game ships we intend to release all the tools to the mod community. Users will then be able to create all their own mods based around hand-to-hand combat," Gerritsen told FGN Online. "We'll also be launching www.runegame.com in the near future which host what we think are the best mods around.

-Tim Gerritsen, Business Director at Human Head Studios
