Rune FAQ

These are some Frequently Asked Questions we get from various members of the Rune community! For more information, please check our list of Rune Cheats, and/or consult our Rune Walkthrough.

I'm stuck In Thorstadt after knocking down the boxes. What's next?

This map has a bug in it. Download the Rune Version 1.01 patch, install the patch, and re-play the level. The door at the end of the courtyard will open automatically once the patch is installed.

Two other solutions:
  1. Make a lot of noise in the courtyard; you might be able to get someone on the other side of the door to open it.
  2. Use the console commands cheatplease, ghost, walk, and cheatplease to pass through the door.

How do I keep from falling into the lava when riding between Hel levels?

Download the Rune Version 1.01 patch and install it. This should fix the problem.

Another solution: just as the cinematic (movie) is ending, move Ragnar forward and continue moving forward until the elevator stops. This may keep you from falling into the lava.

How do I make some of those really long jumps?

The trick to making many of the difficult jumps in Rune is:
  1. Find the highest / closest possible spot to make the jump from. Often this is an angle in a railing, or a corner of a pillar.
  2. Find the closest possible landing spot - again, often a corner.
  3. Line yourself up so that the closest spots are aligned
  4. Back up as much as possible without falling off whatever you're jumping from
  5. Look to where you want to land
  6. Move forward, jumping at the last possible minute while continuing to move forward.

My computer grinds to a halt after the Goblins kidnap me. What can I do?

This is a problem in the game, and Human Head is working on a fix for it. Meanwhile, here are two ways to get around the problem:
  1. Use the console command "switchcooplevel Beetlefly" to bypass the trial pit level.
  2. If you have only 64MB of RAM, try upgrading to at least 96MB; this will have a big impact on performance of Rune and may other video games.

How do I back up saved levels in Rune, if I'm going to reinstall my system?

Here's how you do it:
  1. Make a new folder somewhere (suppose it is called OldGames), and copy everything from Rune\Save into it
  2. Re-install Rune
  3. Run Rune. Start a new game. Go to the Save Game screen. Save the current game in each save game slot.
  4. Quit Rune.
  5. Copy everything from OldGames (or whatever you called it) to Rune\Save
  6. Run Rune. Go to the Load Game screen. The games will all have the wrong names. To fix this, load each game and immediately save it back. For example, load the 3rd game, and save it back as the 3rd game, and this will fix the name.
That's it. There might be an easier way, but I've used the method above several times and it always works.
