 Ragnar's Ad Campaign!   by Phoebus [4:33 pm PT - Aug. 31, 2000]
Check out our lastest Featured Screenshot! It's part of a print ad campaign for Rune that debuts this month in Computer Gaming World. Our very own Chris 'Gwynhala' Burke nabbed it from the front desk at Human Head Studios last week during a visit to Madison, Wisconsin! Here's a 1024x768 version (204KB) suitable for your desktop wallpaper (and mine)! Here's the really cool handwritten text, which tells a little of the back-story of Ragnar's quest, in case you still can't make it out:
HiS city, torn and MANGLED,
it was here I MET
AND Lopped the HEAD
of my FiRST
DARK WARRIOR AND LEARNED
that my VILLAGE AND PEOPLE
WERE to be the next SPOILS
of SARKAMEN'S WAR
IT IS HERE

Rune On The Radar   by pj [6:48 am PT - Aug. 30, 2000]
The slackers (I mean that in a nice way) over at Daily Radar have posted a preview of Rune. It's peppered with fun phrases like, "AAAARRRGGGH! Bite my Sword," and, "Ragnar is the game's main man," and I musn't leave out, "there are lots of different spiky toys to use and plenty of critters to use them on." So rush on over to read this oh-so-informative preview.

Rune Dev Update Number 7 (With A Bullet)   by pj [6:09 am PT - Aug. 29, 2000]
The kids over at Voodoo Extreme have posted Meester Chris Rhinehart's latest entry in the Developer Diary.
We programmers are helping the level designers with any outstanding gameplay features that might need tweaking or fixing, and overall just working on bug finding and bug squashing. After Beta, we will continue to fix bugs and optimize the game. Also, Paul (our esteemed Lead Programmer) has been working on Rune Multiplayer, which looks and plays great. It's a good sign when the nightly UT and Half-Life matches are being replaced with nightly Rune Deathmatch.

More Mod News Lovin'   by pj [11:00 am PT - Aug. 16, 2000]
Not specifically Rune news, but some day this product could make the life of a Modder pretty darn sweet. I'm talking of course about gMAX, an upcoming free game mod product from Discreet. Stomped (you know, I think they may be the dance/rhythm troup after all) posted an interview with Kevin Baker (Grand High AniManager Poobah for Discreet). The magical HTML scissors reveals:
So we are really trying to put turbo-chargers, if you will, on the whole mod business. Right now, it tends to be primarily built around the first person shooter genre, but you know what? There are the sims, the racers, even many sports games and role playing games. There is all kinds of game genres which can benefit from mods, and we are trying to encourage that.
That's the next to last paragraph, so you can't accuse me of ruining the ending... In case you missed the link above, the article is right over here.

Happy 3rd Anniversary, Human Head!   by Phoebus [5:52 pm PT - Aug. 12, 2000]
It's hard to believe, but Human Head's 3 years old today! Programmer and Co-founder Chris Rhinehart announced in his .plan:
Congrats to Ritual on reaching the 4-year mark, and a belated congratulations to Ritual and other fellow g.o.d. developer Third Law for each recently releasing cool games!

Coincidentally, today is Human Head's 3rd anniversary. Yup, it was exactly a year to the day after Ritual was founded that we started Human Head Studios. Truth be told, the crunch of RUNE caused me to forget that Human Head's anniversary was approaching until I saw Mark D.'s plan update. It sounds cliche, but it's hard to believe that 3 years have passed already. The future looks good for Human Head, as we have two very cool looking games slated for release very soon: RUNE and Blair Witch Volume 2.

I think I'll take a break from RUNE for a bit and go have a celebratory cocktail.
Congratulations, guys! :-)

Rune Shown At GenCon   by pj [12:52 pm PT - Aug. 11, 2000]
Gamers.com scooped 'em all with thier Rune at GenCon article. Here's a moist tidbit:
Tucked away in a small corner at GenCon was the suspiciously modest Gathering of Developers booth. Barely 12 feet by 12 feet, the booth felt as if it were about to be overrun by the T-shirt booth next to it. "Speak softly" must be GOD's GenCon motto, because GOD brought their big stick with them: Rune.
...and that's just the first paragraph. It goes on for three more! You know what to do for the complete article.

New Extreme Developer Diary!   by pj [6:00 am PT - Aug. 10, 2000]
Voodoo Extreme has posted part six of the RUNE Developer's Diary. You can go read it to hear Chris Rhinehart say
Content is close to being finalized. There are still a few more objects, textures and such that we are adding. All major content has been locked down. Every day the game looks better and better. Trust me, it won't be too long...
He also discusses an age old philosophical question in the second question of the update. Go check it out here.

Rune Goes Corporate   by pj [8:27 am PT - Aug. 6, 2000]
Well, not exactly. The Corporation has posted a preview of the game we're all waiting for:
The game features seven classes of enemies, with variations between each class. The enemies get smarter as you move along in the game, and there's countless visual differences. Some goblins could be wearing a new summer hairdo, while less stylish goblins could be sporting last year's tired look. For shame! There's also differences between each enemy in terms of clothing and other things People Magazine rates celebrities on. Look for the 50 Most Eligible Dwarves! issue later this month.
For a more coherent (and possibly informative) read, head on over and
read it!

Rune Interview   by Demolisher [7:27 am PT - Aug. 2, 2000]
The Corporation has posted an interview with Tim Gerritsen from Human Head. Here is a snip from the interview:
What stage is the development and testing of Rune in right now?

Well, we’re going alpha in August and we do a lot of in-house play of our own. We go Beta in September and we should be on the shelves in October.
